I just wanted to give everyone an update on our Invitational Mini Silloth competition on Sunday.

Weather wise, it was a pretty cool day for mid-August, nevertheless it was a fun day’s golf with a fantastic turnout by our Members and their guests.

Can I start by thanking all 170 Members and Guests for their participation in, and support of the event.

Also a big shout out to the Green-keeping team for their support with the markings at the Target and Longest Drive holes and for the superb presentation of the course, in particular the greens. They just seem to be getting slicker and slicker. Well done Scott and the guys in what has been an extremely tough few months for them.

Bistro 19 did us proud by providing Food and Drink free of charge at the Caravan a superb gesture from Mike and his team.

Grant Findlay supplied the use of the Caravan for free too as well as donating a Raffle prize.

This year our Corporate sponsorship opportunity was severely limited due to Covid 19 and at short notice I called on our members to try and fill the revenue void that this created. Incredibly, we managed to get all 18 holes sponsored…and even enough for a 19th hole as well!

All sponsors are deserving of a mention.

It was great to see new members Andy Campbell and Robert Smart offering sponsorship support to the event having only just joined Harburn recently. Much appreciated both.

Harburn Ladies did us proud with sponsorship of four holes, thank you.

In addition to Sponsorship we had Raffle Prize donations from Biffa Waste, Bistro 19, Alan Douglas, Kenny Saunders, David McCarthy, Fraser Jervis and Alan Brash.

Helen Warnock and Gordon Burns donated Spot Prizes.

A big thank you to all the aforementioned members and companies for their generosity.

On to the competition results …starting with an unexpected bonus for one player, Jack Stewart, who holed in one at the 3rd hole. Congratulations Jack well done.

Congratulations to all the Winning teams above. All prizes can be collected at the Office from Wednesday onwards this week.

Finally, these events cannot take place without the support of a willing group of volunteers behind the scenes. Planning, communicating, fundraising and fulfilling the mundane but necessary administration duties involved to run and close off the competition.

So a special thanks to all concerned  – Jim Stewart, Jim McGrane, Jim McEwan, Alan Douglas, Robert Montgomery and Francis Barkey…and the tireless efforts of Sheila McEwan and Dorothy Wilson for a long shift on Sunday afternoon and evening checking scorecards and scoresheets. Much appreciated all.
