These are the guidelines or rules for the Senior Inter District Cup.

The first match is scheduled at Bathgate GC 25th April between Harburn and Ravelston.

THE LOTHIANS GOLF ASSOCIATION SENIOR INTER DISTRICT CUP – THE RULES

Rule 1      The event is called ‘THE LOTHIANS GOLF ASSOCIATION SENIOR INTER DISTRICT CUP’

Rule 2      The Lothians Golf Association Senior Inter District Cup is a match play event played on an annual basis between the winners/ representatives of the South Edinburgh District Seniors Golf League (SEDSGL) and the winners/representatives of the Linlithgowshire Golf Association Senior Golf League (LGASGL)

Rule 3      The event is run by a Committee consisting of the Tournament Administrator, the two Lothians Golf Association Area Representatives and the two League Secretaries.

Rule 4      Changes to the format of the event will be made by the Committee.

Rule 5      The winners of the Lothians Golf Association Senior Inter District Cup will hold the trophy for one year and will see that it is suitably engraved.

Rule 6      The Final is to be played at a neutral venue in either Edinburgh or Linlithgowshire on the last Tuesday or Thursday in September. An SEDSGL club will host the Final in years ending in ODD numbers and an LGASGL club will host the Final in years ending in EVEN numbers. In the event of the Final not being played on the last Tuesday or Thursday in September, the match will be rescheduled to the first Tuesday or Thursday in October and if this date is still unsuitable then the match will be rescheduled for the second last or last Tuesday or Thursday in April of the following year.

Rule 7      Each League will nominate two potential Host Club venues at the start of each year as the Host Club must not be one of the Clubs participating in the Final.

Rule 8      The Host Club is to provide coffee/tea and biscuits before the game and soup and sandwiches and/or coffee/tea after the game to the five neutral officials from the Lothians Golf Association Senior Inter District Cup Committee, the Captain/Vice Captain of the Host Club and the Captain/Vice Captain, players and up to three officials from each of the participating Clubs as well. The Sponsor is to pay for all the catering however if a Sponsor was not in place then the Clubs participating in the Final will each have to pay 50% of the catering costs to the Host Club

Rule 9      Teams consist of ten Club members aged 55 years or over on matchday playing in five fourballs in ASCENDING handicap order when the final is played in the SEDSGL in the ODD years and in ANY handicap order when the final is played in the LGASGL in the EVEN years. The lowest handicap players in each of the fourballs concedes strokes to the other players based on 90% of the difference between the full handicaps. (Strokes to be taken according to the course Stroke Index) The names of each team member are to be lodged with the Tournament Administrator in playing order twenty-four hours in advance of the final. Changes to the team members can be made if they have been registered with the Tournament Administrator one hour before play is scheduled to begin. No changes will be permitted after that time

Rule 10    The maximum handicap allowed is 28 and teams may not select a player that has either not played at least one league match for his Club or has already played for another Club in the SEDSGL or the LGASGL during the same playing season. If the match is rescheduled for the following year teams may not select a player that was not a member of the participating club the preceding year.

Rule 11    Teams will be awarded 1 point for winning their game and 1/2 point will be awarded to each team if the game is tied. If the points are equal after the final game has been played, each club should nominate one pair to play in a hole by hole sudden death playoff to decide the winning club. Those of the Committee present on the day will decide which holes are to be played.

Rule 12    In the event of the Final not being finished because the course is unplayable only games that have been completed will count towards the final score however if no more than three games are finished, the Final will be replayed on an agreed date. The Host Club and those of the Committee present on the day will decide when the course is unplayable.

Rule 13    If less than a full team is available then the “Missing Player Match” may be played on a ‘1 vs 2’ basis. Any other games involved in a shortfall of players must be conceded. Any Clubs unable to fulfill the fixture will forfeit the match and the Lothians Golf Association Senior Inter District Cup will be awarded to the other participating Club.

Rule 14    Players may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. This rule allows the use of distance-measuring devices which include GPS such as Sky-caddies.
