Round 11 of the Kirk Medal qualifiers took place yesterday with 99 players competing to make it through to the Final in August .

Conditions again were not easy and with the quick greens and brisk wind a few of the back nine holes were playing well above par, particularly the tricky 13th and 15th short holes. Only 10 players broke “net par”.

In the Division One competition it was a really tight affair with 4 players separated by one shot at the top of the leaderboard. Allan Maxwell’s four under 67 was good enough to hold off the strong challenges from Craig Stevens, Mark McManus and Mark Fowler all finishing with three under par 68’s.

Allan had a birdie start and three good pars at 4, 7 and 9 saw him out in three under par 33 and he picked up one more shot to par coming back in 34 for a solid round.

Craig Stevens took second spot on countback, his impressive 3 under 32 back nine gave him a 68 and was too strong for both Mark McManus in third place and an unlucky Mark Fowler in fourth also beaten on countback. It was a very tight finish that could have gone any way.

Allan won £22.50 for first place in the sweep, Craig took £13.50 for second and Mark won £9.00 for third.

Countback details for second and third place are below

Player Score Back 9 Back 6 Back 3 Position
Craig Stevens 68 32 22 12 2nd
Mark McManus 68 33 22 12 3rd
Mark Fowler 68 33 22 13 4th

In Division Two Archer Wilson spread-eagled the field with a fantastic 7 under par 64, winning by five shots from Alan Lee in second place with a two under 69.

Alan lost his chance of staying close with a double at the 11th and an ugly seven at the 15th.

In third place it was Steven Hardie with a one over par 72, winning on countback from Gordon Somerville, Michael Campbell and Steven Craig who all finished on the same score.

Archer played a steady par round for the front nine holes but came back in a blistering 28 shots, net 7 under par and it was “game over” for the rest of the players.

Great scoring Archer and deservedly took the honour of top qualifier on the day.

Archer won £22.05 for first prize in the sweep, Alan £13.23 for second spot and Steven won £88.82 in third.

Countback details for third place are below

Player Score Back 9 Back 6 Back 3 Position
Steven Hardie 72 34 19 11 3rd
Gordon Somerville 72 34 21 11 4th
Michael Campbell 72 38 26 15 5th
Steven Craig 72 38 27 16 6th

In the Gross competition it was also a really tight affair with both Craig Deerness and Chris Curran shooting one under par 70’s.

Craig was out in one over par 37 but had a really strong back nine of 33 which included birdies at 12 and 15 which proved too string for Chris.

Chris will be kicking himself, after 16 holes he was sitting at 4 under par but an uncharacteristic triple bogey at 17, de-railing his chances of winning, will have given him a sleepless night.

Countback details for first place are below

Player Gross Back 9 Back 6 Back 3 Position
Craig Deerness 70 33 21 12 1st
Christopher Curran 70 35 23 15 2nd

Craig won £8.80 for top Gross score and both players also picked up £26.40 each for their birdies at the 15th alongside Stuart Tidy.

Well played lads and congratulations to all qualifiers for the Final in August.
