Round 14 of the Kirk Medal qualifiers took place in glorious sunshine yesterday with a decent field of 117  players competing to make it through to the Final in August.

The course was looking fantastic again and feel sure that all the players would be delighted at the way the greens played so soon after our maintenance programme. The combination of great weather and receptive greens made scoring a little easier and we saw some of the best scores of the season and no surprise that 36 players broke net par on the day.

In the Division One competition it was close for the honours between Alex Bathgate, Chris Rooney and Willie Heeps all finishing on joint 5 under par 66. Alex took top spot though by virtue of his better back nine score of net 30.

A very solid round of gross 72 including an impressive back nine of two under par 33 saw Alex shoot 3 birdies at 11, 15 and 17 which secured him first place.

Good to see Chris Rooney finding a bit of form with a gross 73 edging out Willie on countback but Willie will be delighted with his round of 76 which included birdies at 9 and 16.

Alex won £21.15 in the sweep in first place, Chris £12.69 in second and Willie £8.46 in third.

Well done guys on a tight finish and excellent scoring.

Div 1 Countback details for first place below:

Alexander Bathgate 66 30 19 10 1
Christopher Rooney 66 31 18 10 2
William Heeps 66 32 21 10 3

In Division Two it was David Galloway who fired one of the lowest rounds of the season shooting a gross 78, playing off 15 (not for much longer though!) giving him an unbeatable round of eight under par net 63. Just one shot behind though were Ian Littlejohn and Malcolm McGowan who finished on 64.

David started well with an opening birdie at the first and was three under par at the turn. A strong back nine of net 30 which included another birdie at the 15th saw him finish one shot clear of Ian and Malcolm. Great scoring all, and well done to David for the low score of the day.

David won £31.50 for top spot in the sweep, Ian won £18.90 in second and Malcolm £12.60 in third.

Div 2 Countback details for second place below:

Player Score Back 9 Back 6 Back 3 Position
Ian Littlejohn 64 29 17 9 2
Malcolm McGowan 64 30 18 10 3

In the Gross sweep it was Chris Curran who had the best round of the day with a brilliant five under par 66 which included 7 birdies. Good shooting Chris.

Chris won £11.40 for first place.

In the two’s sweep there were five winners, Brian Rooney, Alistair Henderson, Alex Bathgate, Scott O’Hagan and David Galloway each picking up £18.24 in sweep money.

The qualifiers for the Final next month were:

 David Galloway        63

Chris Rooney             66

Tug Wilson                67
