We held our Silloth event on Saturday and even the weather couldn’t dampen spirits of all the players who took part.

A fantastic turnout of 194 players in total took to the course from 7.30am through to the last group at 3.30pm.

A huge thank you to all players and guests for not only participating in but supporting the event along with our local charity the Rosebery Centre, One of a Kind, based in Polbeth.

A few things stood out on the day – firstly, a huge shout out to the ladies who supported the event and for some stellar performances in the competition (more later), secondly, the condition of the course, again presented in magnificent condition and it handled the torrential rain really well and thirdly, how good were the Bistro 19 Burgers on course? Just brilliant!

Also- if any players felt the “nearest the target” pin positions were a little tricky – look no further than Jim McEwan to blame! I think retirement has a lot to do with it!

Finally, how good was the tempo and swing of our guest Professional Nikki Ferguson –she made hitting the ball look so easy and effortless.

On to the main event and there were two competitions being played for on Saturday. Scratch and Handicap.

Starting with the Handicap Prize winners and it was a really close contest with three pairs tied for 1st place on a score of 66 2/3. As always, in these situations it comes down to a tie breaker and it is congratulations to David Condie and Cameron Vines who ran out winners taking the honours by virtue of BIH overall and winning £125 each in vouchers for their efforts.
Two birdies to start their back nine and a run of pars to the 18th meant they came back in gross 33.

Second place went to Aileen and Joe Kennedy who birdied both par threes in the back nine but just failed narrowly on countback. Well done on picking up £100 each in vouchers.

In third place it was Mother and Daughter Eileen and Ashley Montgomery. They were in pole position after sixteen holes and will be rueing a disappointing bogey, double bogey finish to lose out on countback. Hope Mum and Daughter are still on talking terms!

Hopefully the £80 each in voucher prizes will give a little comfort to a great effort Ladies.

In fourth place it was Jim D Stewart and partner Stuart Rennie with a 67. A short missed putt at thirteen was to prove costly for them. Well done though in winning £50 each in voucher prizes.

The final prize winning place went to Dominic McCauley and his partner Kenny Heggie who finished with a score of 67 1/3 earning £30 each in vouchers.

In the Scratch competition we had convincing winners in Craig Deerness and Richie Paul. Well done both on a very impressive score of 65 Gross. They carded three birdies in the first nine and another three in the back nine …but they had an ace up their sleeve in Craig’s fantastic HOLE IN ONE at the 15th hole which gave them a four under par 31 for the back nine. Great scoring from both players and a really nice achievement for Craig.

The Hole in One prize earns Craig a trip for four to the Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel , Dinner, B&B and two rounds of golf for the group – knowing Craig, I’m sure there will be a place booked for his playing partner Richie! Well done guys, great scoring and a well-deserved £125 voucher prize each.

The runners up prize went to Jim McGrane and his partner Michael Paterson who shot gross 68 which included six 3’s in the back nine. Great effort both and enjoy your £100 each voucher prize.

A great day with lots of excitement and drama as always and a bit of money raised for the Club and our local charity.

Can I say a huge thank you to our main Sponsors Walker Group and for all other sponsors in their generosity in support of the event.

Thanks to “Team Silloth” – you know who you are – for helping plan the event so meticulously well and for helping make it run so smoothly and efficiently and for all the other willing volunteers for giving up their time to help in various areas from marquee building to Registration desk support and cajoling businesses to donate prizes.
