Club Championship B&C Class Rounds 1 & 2 – 6/7July 2024

Tony Jones and Shaun Conway are lead qualifiers

Tony Jones leads the B Class qualifiers after rounds of 79 and 76 for a total of 155.  In the C Class the top spot goes to Shaun Conway who shot 88 and 92 for a total of 190.

 

B Class

 

It was a very closely contested first round with 12 players within 4 shots of the lead which was held by Alan Mak who shot a 78 finishing a shot ahead of Alan Lambert Thomson and Tony Jones with Paul Bevis and Alex Burnet two shots off the pace on 80.  A further 8 players shot 82 or better.

 

In round 2 it was Tony Jones who scored best with a fantastic 76 finishing 2 shots ahead of Stuart Ross on 78 with Cameron Mackenzie (79) closely followed by Andrew Mason and Alex Burnett.  A further 4 players tied on 82.

 

After the first two rounds it is Tony Jones who takes a healthy 6 shot lead thanks to rounds of 79 and 76 for a total of 155.  It’s much closer for second place which is held by Alex Burnet who was very consistent over the weekend with rounds on 80 and 81 for 161, a shot ahead of Paul Bevis (80+82).  Completing the top 5 places are John Kerr on 163 (81+82) and Cameron Mackenzie on 164 (85+79).  

 

15 players qualify with scores of 171 and better.  4 players tied for the final qualifying spot.  Tony Lang took the final spot on countback with his back 9 of 42 in the second round, which was 2 shots better than Tommy Toner’s 44.

C Class

 

Shaun Conway led after round 1 thanks to a score of 88.  Shaun led by 1 shot from John Stewart who was followed by Colin MacKenzie (90) with John (Jinky) Johnston, Roy Stevens and Martin Sweeney tied on 91.

 

Round 2 was equally as tight with Lee Jervis taking first place with an 88, two shots clear of Bob Lannen and Steven Provan on 90.  Christopher Mannion and Alex Crossley were a further shot back on 91.

 

First round leader Shaun Conway followed up his opening round of 88 with a 92 to extend his lead to 2 shots with a total of 180.  After his lowest score in round 2 Lee Jervis moved in to second place on 182 (94+88).  Bob Lannen is two shots further back on 184 thanks to rounds of 94 and 90.  There is a tie for fourth spot with 4 players sitting on 188.  The top 15 were those finishing on 198 and better.

Sweeps

 

In the B Class 1st round, first place went to Samuel Stantonwith a 69 (82-13) on countback.  Samuel finished on the same mark as Allan Maxwell (81-12) but shot 34 on the back nine, 3 shots better than Allan.  Samuel picks up £37.05 sweep money with Allan Maxwell winning £19.95.  

 

In the C Class 1st round, John Stewart took the honours with a brilliant 66 (89-23) to win by 4 shots from Ray Stevens (91-21).  John wins £18.85 and Ray gets £10.15.

 

In the 2’s sweep, 3 players birdied the 15th.  Lee Jervis, Alistair Henderson and Dean Brown win £22.67.

 

In Sunday’s second round, the B Class winner was Cameron Mackenzie with a fine 68 (79-11) to win by a shot from Tony Jones (76-7) and Tony Lang (82-13).  Tony Jones won the battle of the Tony’s for second spot on countback coming home in 33 to him namesake’s 36.  Cameron picks up £29.90 sweep money with Tony Jones winning £16.10.

 

The C Class winner in round 2 was Christopher Mannion with an excellent 67 (91-24) winning by 3 shots from 3 players, Mark Millar, Lee Jervis and Alex Crossley.  It was Mark Millar that sneaked second place due to his back 9 of 33, a shot ahead of Lee’s 34 and 3 ahead of Alex’s 36.  Christopher gets £20.80 sweep money with Mark picking up £11.20.

 

Four players has a 2 at the 15th.  Robert Smart, Neil Rennie, Brian Lee and James McGrane all winning £15.60 for their efforts.
