What an exciting and thrilling contest yesterday between the Harburn and Bathgate Gents Seniors with four of the five games going to the wire on the last green. Bathgate, who won the East District Seniors championship last season, fielded a strong well-balanced team.

It wasn’t looking good for the Harburn side losing the first two matches.
Alistair Henderson and Stephen Burns just couldn’t get their putting going. In addition, both Billy Saunders and Arthur Frame uncharacteristically failed to par the last hole losing 1 down.
Jim Stewart and Jim Thomson were 1up going down 18 but both again failed to par and finished with a halved match.
Harburn now needed wins on the two remaining games to get the match all square.
Both games went to the last green and it was Harburn who dug deepest with Karl Conway and Alan Rome edging out their counterparts with a narrow 1up win
and Dougie Masterton and Gordon Cameron sealed the draw with brilliant birdies at 17 and 18 winning 2 up in their game.

It was a tough match played in the very best of spirit and a draw was a fair end to a tight contest.

Harburn Captain Bob Stokes felt his team let the match slip from their grasp but it’s another undefeated home performance from the Seniors and great to see the squad being rotated with 15 players now been given an opportunity over 3 matches so far.

Bathgate Seniors were very complimentary afterwards regarding the condition of our course and for the hospitality received post match.

The full results were as follows:-
1. A Henderson & S Burns lost 5&4
2. B Saunders & A Frame lost 1up
3. J Stewart & J Thomson halved match
4. K Conway & A Rome won 1up
5. D Masterton & G Cameron won 2up

Next week the team are “Away” to Uphall, with another tough match expected!

The team will be announced on Sunday.
