Pairs Stableford Cup – 16 June 2024

Stuart and Ronnie cruise to victory in the Pairs Stableford Cup.

With the weather not improving only 26 teams braved the wet conditions. The early pairing of Stuart Stirling and Ronnie Stuart took full advantage of the better conditions at the start of the day to post an unbeatable 48 points to win by 6 points.

Stuart and Ronnie got off to a flier with 4 points at the 2nd and finished the front nine holes with nett birdies on 7, 8 and 9. They also finished strongly scoring 10 points over the last 3 holes, the highlight being a gross 2 from Ronnie at the 17th. Great scoring lads, well done.

It was closer for the minor places with 3 points separating the next 12 teams. Taking second spot was veterans Bob Lannen and Billy Marr with 42 points. Bob and Billy turned in 19 points then went on a nett birdie run over the next 6 holes which helped them back in 23 points to win by 1 point from Billy and Kenny Saunders. The brothers were also out in 19 and had nett birdies at 11, 12, 13 and 16 but will rue 2 nett bogeys. Their 41 points was just enough to pip the teams of Steven Hardie and Stephen Barkey and Stewart Macrae and Graeme Souness to third courtesy of a bih of 22. Despite a 4 pointer at the 16th, Steven and Stephen were back in 21 points, 1 ahead of Stewart and Graeme. 4 teams finished on 40 points with another 4 teams on 39 points.

Stuart and Ronnie win £10.75 sweep each, Bob and Billy getting £7.65 each and Billy and Kenny pick up £5.10 each.

Only one player had a 2 at the 15th. Adam Wigg wins £37.60 from the 2’s sweep.
