Scott Medal 17th August 24

95 players took to the field in today’s Scott Medal competition where conditions were tougher than expected for August with rain and wind making life difficult for the players but the course was in fantastic condition and the greens were rolling really well after being ironed yesterday. Well done again to the greenkeeping team on the presentation of the course.

The tricky conditions didn’t stop veteran Willie Cruickshanks who posted a sparkling 4 under par 67 (33+34) to be leading qualifier. Congratulations Willie.

In Division 1 – Early starter Greg Dymock carded a 3 under par 68, (Gross 71) recording three birdies in a flawless round to put a marker down to the rest of the field but he was never caught and took the honours. Bill McKenna finished 1 shot behind on 69 ( Gross 73) also carding three birdies coming back in a 1 under par 34.

Lyndsay Steele finished third, also with a net 69, just edged out by Bill’s back 9 score.

Greg collected £13 in the Div 1 sweep, with Bill picking up £7

In Division 2 it was Willie Cruickshanks who took the honours , one shot ahead of Steven Stanton who scored 68. Willie did all his best work in the front 9 out in a three under 33 and picked up another stroke against the course in the back 9 with a 34.

Conversely, Steven did all his best work in the final 9 holes coming back in an impressive 36 shots which included three birdies.

Willie won £30.55 in the Div 2 sweep with Steven collecting £16.45

In Division 3 it was another veteran, Robert Montgomery, who took the honours with a net three under par 68. It was a game of two halves for Robert, out in 39 and back in 29 carding 7 pars and 2 birdies on the back 9 to seal his qualification for the Final next month.

Paul Ferris finished one shot behind on 69 in a round which included two birdies at 9 and 16.

Robert picked up £18.20 in the Div 3 sweep with Paul winning £ 9.80.

Qualifiers from today’s round were Bill McKenna, Lindsay Steele, Willie Cruickshank, Steven Stanton, Robert Montgomery, Paul Ferris, Alex Burnett, Callum Todd and Nick Henderson.

Congratulations to the four players who birdied the 15th hole today – Chris Rooney, Bill McKenna, Allan Maxwell and Ronnie Houston all collecting £18,60 each.

…and a special mention Alex Burnett and Aaron Smith for their eagles today. Alex chipped in at 17 for his two and Aaron had a very impressive eagle 3 at 11 into the wind. Nice one guys.
