- Joe Murray is top qualifier
A total of 111 players took part in Saturday’s Scott Medal. With the course in fantastic condition, Joe Murray took full advantage to shoot a brilliant 64 to take top spot from Leigh Conner who shot a fantastic 66. These 2 finished well ahead of 3 players on 69. It was a great day too for James Lawson who had a hole in 1 at the 15th.
Division 1
Leigh Conner’s 66 (71-5) led the way in division 1 finishing 4 shots ahead of Billy Saunders. Leigh was out in a gross 36 with birdies at 3 and 4. He started the back 9 with a double bogey but cancelled that out with further birdies at 11 and 12 and followed that up with 6 pars to be home in 35. Taking second spot was Billy Saunders with a fine 70 (74-4) thanks to a back 9 of 35. Billy finished level with Paul Chisholm but his nett 33 was 1 better than Paul.
Division 2
It was very close in division 2 with 3 players finishing on 69. Corey Bryans (80-11) took the honours thanks to a back 9 of 32. Despite finishing (80-11) took the honours thanks to a back 9 of 32. Despite finishing with a bogey, Corey held on to top spot thanks to a nett eagle and 8 nett birdies in his round. In second place was Alistair Greer (78-9) who held off Colin Hume (83-14) on countback over the last 6 holes after both came home in 34 shots. Alistair had 5 nett birdies in his round and his last 6 hole score of 22 was 1 ahead of Colin. The last hole proved decisive with a 2 shot swing, Alistair made birdie to Colin’s bogey.
Division 3
Top qualifier Joe Murray easily won division 3 by 6 shots with a 64 (34-30). Joe started with nett bogeys at 2 and 3 but hit back immediately with a nett eagle at 4 followed by 7 nett birdies in the last 14 holes. Great shooting in very tricky conditions. Finishing second on countback was William McArdle (91-21) who was back in 33 thanks to nett birdies at 17 and 18. His 70 was matched by Steven Starritt (86-16) but a double bogey at 17 cost Steven who came back in 35.
It was a birdie fest at 15 with eleven players sharing the 2’s sweep. The winners are:
