Morning all

Another hard-fought game yesterday at Uphall with the result ultimately dependent on the last match which we unfortunately lost on the last green.

The full result was as follows:-

  1. Jim Stewart & Mark Wardrop lost 1up.
  2. Billy Saunders & Alan Rome won 2&1.
  3. Lindsay Steele & Stephen Burns won 1up.
  4. Neil Hogarth & Arthur Frame lost 2&1.
  5. Jim Davidson & Dougie Masterton lost 1up.

As you can see from the results three matches went to the last green and I genuinely thought we had it in the bag. The last hole at Uphall has been altered to a par three to accommodate building works on the new clubhouse. The stroke index on the hole has not changed meaning strokes were being given away on a par 3 rather than the regular par 4 a factor which swung the match in Uphall’s favour.

All the matches were very very close, boiling down to fine margins like a missed putt, a poor drive, missing a green at crucial times and a smattering of good or bad luck.

Away from home It’s become even more important to get a good start and not to trail by any more than 2 holes throughout the match. Easy to say but critical in our quest for the illusive away win.

The cork remains on the champagne bottle. So close once again.

There is no match next Thursday with the county Seniors championship taking place at Uphall. Watch out for the last hole if you’re competing.

Our next match is at home to Niddry the following Thursday and I’ll announce the team the Sunday before.

Keep swinging.

Bob
