Grant Hawthorn holds on to lead in the Veterans’ Trophy!

The second round of the Veterans’ Trophy was played in mild benign conditions on Tuesday 23rd May. An excellent 44 stableford points from George McGuire was the best score of the day closely followed by 43 points from John Aird, with 41 points for William Marr and John Rumbles. John Stewart was one further back with 40 points.

Overall though Grant Hawthorn held onto his lead from the first round scoring 35 points to add to the 41 points from the first round, making 76 points in total. He is followed by Jim Stewart on 73 points and Ian Wilson and John Aird on 72 points.

It was pleasing to see 14new players enter the Trophy in round 2 making total entries over the first two rounds of 57 individuals.

The scoring for the overall trophy is the best three rounds out of six over the Summer so things will get interesting from the fourth round as the worst rounds start to drop out of the scoring for people lower down the rankings at the moment.

There were three more 2s from Jim Stewart, Andrew Leitch and Sam Morrison to add to the three in the first round.

The next round is on  27th June and the entry sheet will open soon. It is not too late to enter to get your three counting scores in.
