Grant Hawthorne takes the honours in Round 1
The new Seniors competition got off to a good start. There were 42 entrants in the first round of this Stableford competition that takes the form of six Stableford rounds over the Summer with the best three scores counting for the Trophy.
The early flights had to cope with a morning mist but as the day progressed this cleared to a very sunny day with a gentle, but cold, easterly wind and the scoring was impressive.
Seven players beat their handicap, scoring 37 points or more. In the lead with an exceptional 41 points was Grant Hawthorne, closely followed by Duncan MacAulay on 40 points and former captains Alistair Hutton and Jim Stewart just one back on 39 points, together with Paul Bevis. John Wright and Steven Roe followed closely behind on 38 and 37 points, respectively.
After each round of the competition a Leaderboard for the Trophy will be posted in the Clubhouse showing the qualifying scores throughout the season, together with a table of those who scored a two.
There were three twos in this first round, John Wright and Ronnie Stuart at the 15th and Harry Gordon at the 13th.
Prizes will be given at the end of season prize-giving event with competitions winnings split over the top three places, and the twos fund shared across all six rounds
